A SUMMARY ON EVERY TCG RELEASE SO FAR

2026 is shaping up to be one of the most stacked years in Pokémon TCG history. Mega Evolution is back in a big way, Pokémon's 30th anniversary is adding fuel to an already burning fire, and the release calendar has been moving at a pace that makes it difficult to keep up with – especially if you blinked between January and now.
Whether you're chasing every chase card, selectively buying sealed, or just trying to figure out what you missed and whether it's worth hunting down, this is your release intel breakdown. We've compiled every major Pokémon card release date from January through May 2026, with some notes on what sold out, what's still findable, and what's coming next.
We'll keep updating this as new information drops.
THE MEGA EVOLUTION ERA
Before diving into the dates, a bit of context.
The entire 2026 Pokémon TCG block is built around Mega Evolution – a mechanic beloved from the XY era that's been reimagined through the lens of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Every major Pokémon release this year features Mega Evolution Pokémon ex as its centrepiece, alongside a brand new rarity: the Mega Attack Rare. These full-art cards feature bold, pop-art styling and retro katakana attack text – some of the most visually distinct cards in recent TCG history.
2026 marks a whole new era. The sets build on each other, the competitive meta is evolving around them, and the collector demand has been, to put it mildly, intense.
JANUARY 30, 2026 — MEGA EVOLUTION: ASCENDED HEROES
Status: Out now. Most sealed product sold out or above MSRP.

The set that kicked off the year – and immediately reminded everyone what Pokémon TCG launch day chaos looks like.
Ascended Heroes is the largest English Pokémon TCG set ever released, packing over 290 cards across the set including 13 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, new Tera Pokémon ex, and Trainer's Pokémon cards tied to iconic characters. The cover stars are Mega Dragonite ex and Mega Charizard Y ex, but the real buzz has centred on Mega Gengar ex Special Illustration Rares, which were clearing enormous prices in the Japanese equivalent set before the English release even dropped.
Because Ascended Heroes is a special set rather than a standard expansion, there are no traditional booster boxes. Packs are only available through specialty products, which made the supply situation particularly tight from day one.
What happened at launch: The Pokémon Center exclusive Elite Trainer Box sold out during December presales – before the set even launched. On January 30 itself, Tech Sticker Collections and standard collections sold out across Pokémon Center, Amazon, and GameStop within a few hours. ETBs hit $100–$150 on eBay within 48 hours of release.
What came after: Ascended Heroes products rolled out in waves across the first quarter. Elite Trainer Boxes and Mini Tins arrived February 20. Premium Poster Collections featuring Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex dropped March 20. The Booster Bundles – six packs per bundle – finally landed April 24, and promptly sold out at Pokémon Center again.
What's findable now: Standard ETBs have restocked at various retailers but prices remain elevated above MSRP. The Pokémon Center exclusive ETB is gone and not coming back. Amazon listings from third-party sellers exist but expect significant markups. Your best bet for Ascended Heroes singles at reasonable prices is TCGPlayer now that the initial hype has cooled.
Chase cards to know: Mega Gengar ex SIR, Mega Dragonite ex SIR, Mega Charizard Y ex SIR, and the Mega Attack Rares across the board. The 22 Special Illustration Rares in the set give collectors a lot of high-end targets.
FEBRUARY 20, 2026 — MEGA CHARIZARD EX TINS
Status: Out now. Availability mixed.

Alongside the Ascended Heroes ETB wave, The Pokémon Company released two Mega Charizard ex Tins – a straightforward collector product that unsurprisingly moved quickly given the Charizard effect. These tins included a foil promo card and booster packs, and are the kind of product that tends to hold value simply because of the Pokémon on the cover. Stock has been patchy at big box retailers since launch.
MARCH 20, 2026 – FIRST PARTNER ILLUSTRATION COLLECTION (SERIES 1)
Status: Out now. Still findable at retail.

Source: Pokemon.com
One of the standout non-expansion releases of the year so far. The First Partner Illustration Collection celebrates Pokémon's 30th anniversary by spotlighting the franchise's iconic starter Pokémon as Illustration Rare-style promo cards — the kind of artwork-forward cards that collectors specifically hunt.
Series 1 covers Kanto, Sinnoh, and Alola starters. Each collection includes a special promo booster pack with three illustration cards, two standard Pokémon TCG booster packs, and a themed sticker sheet. At a more accessible price point than the major expansions, this one has flown a little under the radar – which means it's actually still findable at or near retail at many stores, making it a quiet win for collectors who aren't fighting scalpers for it.
Series 2 (Johto, Unova, and Galar Starters) is expected June 19, 2026.
MARCH 27, 2026 — MEGA EVOLUTION: PERFECT ORDER
Status: Out now. Still available at or near MSRP at many retailers.

Source: Pokemon.com
The second major expansion of the Mega Evolution series and, interestingly, the most accessible major set of 2026 so far.
Perfect Order features over 120 cards led by Mega Zygarde ex as its cover star, alongside Mega Starmie ex, Mega Clefable ex, and Mega Skarmory ex. Unlike Ascended Heroes, Perfect Order launched with a full traditional product lineup – booster boxes, ETBs, booster bundles, and sleeved packs all at once – which made the supply situation considerably less chaotic.
The result? ETBs remained on shelves at major retailers well into April at or close to MSRP, which is unusual for a major Pokémon TCG release in 2026. The community is divided on why – some point to the smaller set size, the absence of a single blockbuster chase card on the level of Mega Gengar ex, and collector budgets stretched thin after Ascended Heroes. Others argue this is simply a healthier, more sustainable release, and that Perfect Order's value will build steadily as competitive players adopt it into their decks.
The Pokémon Center ETB comes with 11 booster packs and two exclusive full-art Tyrunt promo cards, making it the premium pick for anyone who wants the most from the set. The standard ETB includes nine packs and a single Tyrunt promo.
Worth picking up? If you've been waiting for a set where you can actually buy product at retail without fighting bots and scalpers, Perfect Order is your moment. The competitive relevance is real — Mega Zygarde ex has already seen tournament play – and sealed product that's accessible now tends to become harder to find as the set matures. Stock won't last forever.
APRIL 3, 2026 – 2025 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP DECKS
Status: Out now.

Source: Pokemon.com
An annual collector tradition – card-for-card replicas of the top four decks from the 2025 Pokémon TCG World Championships in Anaheim. These aren't tournament-legal (they come with a distinct card back pattern), but they're excellent reference points for competitive players and popular collector items for anyone who follows the competitive scene. Released alongside the broader Ascended Heroes product wave, these are still findable at retail.
APRIL 24, 2026 – ASCENDED HEROES BOOSTER BUNDLES + MEGA EX COLLECTION BOXES
Status: Booster Bundles sold out at Pokémon Center. Collection boxes still available.

Source: Pokemon.com
The final wave of Ascended Heroes product. Booster Bundles (six packs) sold out quickly at Pokémon Center at $26.94 MSRP, with Amazon third-party listings immediately jumping to $90+ – a familiar story for this set.
The Mega ex Collection Boxes featuring Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex, and Mega Feraligatr ex include a foil promo card, a giant lenticular card, and four Ascended Heroes booster packs. These are still available at various retailers and represent a solid way into Ascended Heroes packs if you missed the earlier waves.
MAY 22, 2026 – MEGA EVOLUTION: CHAOS RISING (COMING SOON)
Status: Prerelease events May 9-17. Full release May 22.

Source: Pokemon.com
The latest Pokémon card release in the Mega Evolution block, and the one the community is most excited about right now.
Chaos Rising is the English equivalent of Japan's Ninja Spinner set, featuring over 120 cards with Mega Greninja ex as the undisputed cover star. The set also includes Mega Pyroar ex, Mega Floette ex, and Mega Dragalge ex, with all four appearing across different booster pack artworks. The thematic focus is Lumiose City from Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and a new gameplay mechanic – the Mega Turbo Rule – means Mega Evolution no longer automatically ends your turn, but introduces a coin flip risk instead.
Why the hype is real: Mega Greninja has one of the most devoted fan followings in the franchise. Its signature attack, Mortal Shuriken, deals base 220 damage with a multi-target spread effect that's caught competitive players' attention. Early pulls from prerelease events are already circulating online and the SIR versions are generating the kind of buzz that Mega Gengar ex did before Ascended Heroes dropped.
Prerelease events run May 9–17 at participating Play! Pokémon stores, where you can get a Build & Battle Box early and experience the set ahead of the official launch. Use the official Event Locator on Pokemon.com to find one near you.
Availability warning: Prerelease kits are already sold out at many locations, and Booster Boxes on the secondary market are trading at 15–25% above expected MSRP. This one is tracking to move faster than Perfect Order. If you're planning to buy sealed, set alerts and move quickly on launch day.
WHAT'S COMING AFTER MAY?
We'll be updating this guide as new Pokémon TCG release dates are confirmed. Based on what we know and what's been speculated from trademark filings and Japanese set schedules:
- First Partner Illustration Collection Series 2 (Johto, Unova, Galar starters) – June 19, 2026
- Storm Emerald (featuring Mega Rayquaza ex) – expected August/September 2026
- 30th Anniversary Celebration Set – September 18, 2026 – an all-foil special set with a brand new rarity type and the first-ever worldwide simultaneous launch in Pokémon TCG history
2026 is far from done. We'll keep this updated as official announcements land.
ONE LAST THING – PROTECT WHAT YOU PULL
Release day is exciting. New product hits the table, packs get cracked, and the cards start moving fast. But the value of everything you pull – from a Mega Greninja ex SIR to a First Partner promo – depends entirely on the condition it's in the moment after it leaves the pack.
Sleeve immediately. Store properly. Don't let a great pull become an expensive lesson.
